Education System in Pakistan is suffering. It has many issues. Due to which it fails to serve the country. As a result, the literacy rate is as low as 58.5%. Pakistan Bureau of Statistics gave this result. It is even lower than in Nepal and Bangladesh. However, both countries are poorer than us.
The students do not get a good education. They do not learn to think, but they only memorize the facts. Hence, they fail to compete with students from other countries. All of this hurt their self-esteem. This is why they do not have confidence.
As Albert Einstein said,
“Education is not learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think.”
The students have very limited power to think. They do not want to try new things. They do not talk about ideas. Students do not get to learn. For this reason, they listen but do not try to understand what they learn.
The Education System of Pakistan has the following problems:
The education system of Pakistan needs a change. We can do it only when we point out the real problems.
In the first place, this turn of better needs to start from the basic level of the system. Primary education needs to change for the better first. The course in our schools and colleges is old that is our parents have studied the same course at their time. It does not cater to the needs of the nation in the present age.
Another problem is that we have also cut up our education system as our society. We have Cambridge schools for the upper class. English medium schools for the middle class. Next, public Urdu medium schools are for the poor class. These schools offer a low standard of education. Lastly, we have Madrasah. These schools offer religious education. However, the students do not learn skills. Also, students of these schools do not get good jobs. All of these systems have different subjects and standards.
Also, the number of public schools is very low. Most of the good schools are private. These schools have high fees because of which poor people cannot study in it.
What is the solution?
1. We should plan to focus on pre-primary education as well. That is, children can learn better with new methods. For example, “CMT.” This helps in their mental growth. These courses help children to do better in their education.
2. Our education system should have the same course for all. We should make our syllabus good to match the levels of other countries.
As Pervez Hoodbhoy wrote in his article:
“Pakistan’s greatest need and its single greatest failure is to impart essential skills to its citizens through education.”
1. Teachers should also have good teaching skills so that students can learn better. Teaching plays a very important role. If a teacher is good, there will not be bad students. So good teaching is as important as better learning.
2. Apart from the facts, students must also learn life skills. This will help them in their lives. Skill development is very important for living. It helps in the practical work.
3. Poor people need to get a good education. We should have good public schools because education is the basic right of every person in a country. The government should give this right.
Pakistan is facing many problems in its progress. Meanwhile, we also need to make our Education System better. This will need hard work and honesty. We will also need teamwork. Because by working together we can grow faster.
