What is Primary Syllabus? What are the aims of Primary Syllabus?

The aims of the primary school syllabus were developed by the NCCA (National Council for Curriculum and Assessment) and launched in 1999. It is presented in 6 areas which comprise 11 subjects.

● Language

● Mathematics

● Arts Education

● Physical Education

● Social Personal and Health Education

● Social, Environmental, and Scientific Education

The primary school syllabus consists of an eight-year cycle; Montessori infants, junior infants, senior infants, and first to fifth grades. This syllabus is designed to nurture the child in all aspects of their life. It should be focused on the whole child and emphasize the child’s adjustment to the environment.

The primary syllabus is like a roadmap with directions for succeeding in the class and the door to the future. It outlines the contents of children’s learning- the ‘what’ and ‘how’ of children’s learning. It plays a vital role in polishing the basic core skills (that are listening, speaking, reading and writing) of the students.

The primary syllabus is a fairly reliable indicator of the quality of teaching and learning that will take place in a course. This syllabus aims to provide a broad learning experience and encourages a wide variety of approaches to teaching and learning that serve the different needs of individual children.

Its objective is to provide holistic education to enable children to live their lives to the full and to realize their potential as unique individuals.

Primary syllabus goals are to ensure that all children are provided with learning opportunities that recognize and celebrate their uniqueness and develop their full potential. The focus is on the child as a learner, and the use of a variety of teaching methodologies is an essential feature of the syllabus.

The syllabus emphasizes the need for greater attention to be paid to students with special educational needs and emphasizes the importance of achieving good literacy and numeracy.

The Professional Development Service for teacher (PDST) advisors work with schools supporting individual teachers, groups of teachers, and the whole staff in the implementation of the primary school syllabus and in organizational and development planning.

EAST has constructed its primary syllabus exactly on the aims and levels of the primary course syllabus developed by NCCA. It is planned on Common Core of International Standards. EAST established modern learning of literacy all across Pakistan. Our vision is to help every child to get standard education that is accepted, productive and sustainable in the long run.

EAST’s mission is to furnish a syllabus with training and federated products that can help the school to provide good quality education.

So, the primary syllabus actually helps in shaping the future by guiding the youth of today and becoming the leaders of tomorrow.

Referring to a famous quote of Margaret Fuller:

“Today a reader, tomorrow a leader.”
