Dynamic lesson planning for better Montessori education

Dynamic Lesson planning that incorporates three ways of learning is more effective in providing Montessori education to all children.

Auditory

We hear others talk and explain, and we learn by making sense of what others say.

Visual

That’s learning by observing. A learner can adopt a behavior or acquire a certain skill by looking at someone who performs the said behavior or skill.

Kinesthetic

It is learning by doing. That means hands-on experience, where a learner has to do something to learn something. This kind of learning involves our hands and senses.

Lesson planning that incorporates three ways of learning is more effective in providing Montessori education to all children in a classroom.

A good Montessori syllabus is developed around three ways of learning. A concept, when explained in a book, incorporates auditory, visual as well as kinesthetic ways of learning.

Lesson Planning

Lesson Planning for Auditory learners

Let’s take Phonics as an example. When introducing a beginning sound, the book should have a story around the words starting with the targeted beginning sound. The beginning sound ‘a’ can be introduced through a story around ant, apple, ambulance, alligator, and arrow. The story can go like this:

Ant was sitting on an apple. She was playing with the alligator. Alligator hit the apple with an arrow. Ant fell and broke her arm. The ambulance came to take the ant to the hospital. Alligator followed the ambulance to the hospital. The doctor treated ant. Alligator said sorry to an ant. Both were happy.

This will cater to the auditory way of learning. There can also be a poem around the same concept as it will add to the auditory activity.

Lesson Planning for Visual learners

There can be a picture story developed with the help of words starting with the targeted beginning sound. So for the beginning sound, a picture can show an ant sitting on an apple while the alligator is shown throwing an arrow at the apple. The teacher can then show the picture to the children and discuss the objects visible there.

Lesson Planning for Kinesthetic learners

There can be a worksheet that will provide children with a matching activity. For example, there can be a worksheet with four pictures (three of objects starting with the beginning sound ‘a’ and one object not starting with this sound), and children can look and match the sound ‘a’ with the objects starting with this sound.

The three ways of learning provide children with maximum opportunities to acquire knowledge. These three ways make learning dynamic and wholesome.

  1. good one :). I like the concept and ways which are given in this article. Especially, i appreciate this effort. This can be a rain drop that can lead to Pakistan with better education system.

Question is, how can we develop the complete course for a children of different classes based on these above mentioned ways. Once we taught children through these methods then how can we test them. I think a lot of effort is required to introduce the modern methods in our education system in Pakistan. A long way to go……

I ‘ll wait for more good material on this website.

  2. ITS REALLY A GOOD WAY OF TEACHING BUT AGAIN OUR TEACHER OR TEACHER JUST BY NAME AND WE HAVE TO BUILD THEIR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE OF TEACHERS BY GIVING THEM PROPER TRAINING TIME TO TIME\

  3. i can’t beleive that such systematic and researched work is developed in pakistan. i really feel happy as a parent and it give me a new way of thinking. I really appreciate all the members of EAST whose best effort introduced this fully satisfied syllabus in pakistan. The lesson plans and montessori techniques can be make them less burdoned. the childrens interest in stories can help them to learn more and easily.

  4. All three ways of learning are equally important, it’s just that we prefer one way of learning on another and that’s not natural, teachers are not used to apply this kind of methodology. With the help of EAST inshallah we will do better in future and will help teachers to get to know about about the modern methods of teaching.

  5. The introduction to the ways of learning is great and easy to understand. Yes we need to make all efforts in our teaching so that all learners can be engaged in learning. But as an assessment for/as learning advocate, I strongly propose that we need to focus all dimensions in our assessments, to allow all types of learners to demonstrate their learning too.Our assessments should not be only based on paper and pencil tests/written. I propose authentic assessments in real life contexts.
